IngredientsPretzel Dogs
- 1 lb premade pizza dough
- 12 cocktail sausages or mini hot dogs
- 6 cups water
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 egg, beaten
- Coarse salt
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- Mike's Hot Honey, for finishing drizzle
Hot Honey Mustard Sauce
- 1/2 cup mayo
- 2 tbsp grainy mustard
- 1 1/2 tbsp Mike's Hot Honey
- 1 tbsp finely chopped pickled peppers
- 1 tsp pickle brine or vinegar
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
Pretzel Dogs
- Preheat oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide pizza dough into 12 strips. Wrap each strip tightly around a cocktail sausage.
- In a large pot, bring water and baking soda to a boil. Carefully boil each pretzel dog for 20–30 seconds, then transfer to the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush each pretzel dog with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes or until deep golden brown.
- While still warm, brush with melted butter and drizzle lightly with Mike's Hot Honey.
Hot Honey Mustard Sauce
- In a small bowl, combine mayo, grainy mustard, Mike's Hot Honey, chopped pickled peppers, vinegar or pickle brine, and black pepper.
- Mix until smooth and chill.
- Serve alongside warm pretzel dogs for dipping.
Optional Garnish
- Chives
- Extra pickled peppers
- Flaky salt
Pro Tips
- Pat the cocktail sausages dry before wrapping — it helps the dough stick.
- Don't skip the baking soda bath. That's what gives them the classic deep pretzel color and chew.
- Drizzle the hot honey while the pretzel dogs are still warm so it soaks into every twist.
Perfect Partners
Serve alongside:
- A cold lager or hard cider
- Crispy waffle fries
- A pile of pickles
- Anything else you'd want at the tailgate
Make It Your Own
- Swap cocktail sausages for full-size hot dogs (cut the dough strips longer).
- Try with bratwurst or kielbasa for a heartier bite.
- Add everything bagel seasoning instead of (or with) coarse salt.
- Brush with garlic butter before the final hot honey drizzle.
